St Matthew’s Chamber Orchestra is proud to present the 2010 Subscription Concert Series. This year the orchestra explores a wonderful selection of both well known concert favourites and some hidden gems.  As well as the ever popular violin and cello concertos, there are also chances to experience the wonderful tones of the viola, French Horn and oboe.

This year we bring you music through the centirues, from Bach and Vivaldi through to classical composers such as Beethoven and Mozart; through Bizet's delightful Symphony in C to Farquhar's iconic Ring Round the Moon.

Lovers of Beethoven will be treated to a symphony, an overture and a violin cocnerto alongside some Mozart classics including the Magic Flute Overture.  The viola concert we feature in our final concert for 2010 was one of Bartok's last works and we are assured of an energetic and exciting performance.

The line up of artists who will conduct and perform this year is impressive.  Many of the conductors and soloists you will see and hear are already established international performing artists.  SMCO is truly honoured to work with such talent.  We trust you will enjoy hearing them "up close and personal" in the more intimate setting of St Matthew-in-the-City.

Whether you are one of our loyal long-term subscribers or a newcomer to the audience the programme is designed to please both the first time concertgoer and the more musically knowledgeable in our audience.

What a spectacular start to 2010!

Congratulations must go to soloist Simone Roggen, Owen Clarke as conductor and to the players for a wonderful concert last Sunday.  Thank you also to a wonderful audience who helped fill St Matthews and show wonderful support to a New Zealand artist.  Thank you to you all.

Do mark our next concert in your diaries - a treat for an autumn Sunday afternoon.  On the 16th May, Emma Richards will treat us to the warmth and richness of the French Horn with the Strauss Horn Concerto No 1.  Watch this space for more updates nearer the time...
